Created by Initiatives of Change USA, Intersecting History is a multi-level partnership with the following institutions: Virginia Museum of History & Culture, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Black History Museum & Cultural Center, American Civil War Museum, The Valentine, and Institute for Contemporary Art at VCU.

People and communities are like quotes; best understood within context. Unfortunately, too often, our society suffers from a poverty of perspective due to still being raised under separate and segregated histories. As our culture is both continually polarized and stigmatized, there is a great need for an “Intersecting History.” To help meet this need, Initiatives of Change is beginning a new collaboration with local museums called Intersecting History.

In celebration of the permanent installation of Kehinde Wiley’s “Rumors of War” sculpture at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (launching on Dec. 10th), Intersecting History joins together a collaborative of Richmond’s museums to open their doors to the public free of charge for registered participants (normally valued at $40). On December 14th, visitors can take free bus transportation between participating museums to explore not only “Rumors of War” but also a showcase of designated curated exhibits and artifacts that intersect with the theme of this unveiling.

Hop on and off bus transportation provided at marked stops at all six participating institutions, with free parking at the VMFA and American Civil War Museum. Visitors can come at any time between 10 am and 4 pm for as long as desired.

If we truly are to be One Richmond, we must continue to create space for more than just one narrative of our history. We welcome your presence at the Museum Crawl as we work together to build an ongoing Intersecting History.
