The VHS offers a wide variety of tours and gallery walks for all ages and interests. These special programs are held at the Virginia Historical Society and are led by members of the VHS staff.
Behind the scenes tours at the VHS
Follow a staff member on a journey into the VHS collection and uncover the stories behind objects not normally on display in our museum exhibitions. Artifacts and manuscripts relating to changing topics will be presented as one-time-only exhibits, which will also demonstrate how we collect and store the more than nine million items in our collection.
Thank you for a wonderful tour. It was a great way to learn more about the collection and hear valuable input from VHS staff—such a delight.

These themed guided tours of our galleries offer opportunities to explore our collections with an expert and in greater depth. Programs occur on select Wednesdays at noon and last about one hour unless otherwise noted.
