Join us for this members-only bus trip to Sailor’s Creek Battlefield State Park, the American Civil War Museum - Appomattox, and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.
On April 6, 1865, nearly a quarter of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee’s army, more than 7,700 men, were killed, wounded, or captured at the battle of Sailor’s Creek. Seventy-two hours later, the surrender of the Army of Northern Virginia at the village of Appomattox Court House signaled the end of major combat actions in Virginia and led to the end of the American Civil War.
Please join us on this specially led tour of Lee’s Retreat with guest instructor and longtime friend to the VHS, retired Brig. Gen. John W. Mountcastle. This daylong trip includes visits to Sailor’s Creek Battlefield State Park, the American Civil War Museum - Appomattox, and the Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.
