Annual Fund

Gifts to the Annual Fund power the heart of our mission, helping to underwrite exhibitions, events, and programs. These gifts also support school and community group tours and activities, multi-generational learning experiences, and teacher training and re-certification workshops. Gifts of $250 or more also include membership and its benefits. Any employer matching gifts count toward your total annual contribution. Additionally, gifts of appreciated securities offer a number of tax advantages over a cash gift. The Virginia Historical Society has opened accounts with several firms for your convenience.

The 1831 Society: Donors whose gifts total $1,000 or more during the Virginia Historical Society’s fiscal year (July 1 - June 30) are recognized as members of the 1831 Society and receive special recognition and event invitations. Thank you to our 2019 FY donors.

For more information or to make a gift, please contact Elizabeth Darling, Manager of Membership & Annual Giving, at 804.342.9692 or

Tribute, Memorial, and “in lieu of” Gifts

The Weddell Society

We proudly acknowledge the members of the Weddell Society in appreciation for their foresight and generosity to include the Virginia Historical Society in their estate plans. This distinguished group is honorably named to recognize the extraordinary generosity of Virginia and Alexander Weddell, who bequeathed Virginia House and an endowment to benefit the society’s long-term viability.
