Part of the Virginia History Day category.
Part of the program.

Virginia has long been recognized as the birthplace of America—the birthplace of our nation’s triumphs, achievements, tragedies, and ingenuity. From our national beginnings to the present-day, untold Virginia men and women have changed the course of history by pursuing innovation and transformation despite obstacles and setbacks. The 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution™, will honor the 400th anniversary of historical events that occurred in Virginia in 1619, which continue to influence us today.

Using primary sources as well as replica artifacts, students will learn about influential people who shaped our nation’s story in the 1600s, 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s. Students will engage with decision-making models and develop their historic analysis skills as they examine different sources of evidence about each changemaker in history. The program will also connect to the National History Day 2019 theme, Triumph & Tragedy in History.
