For over fifty years, Virginia and Pennsylvania claimed the same territory west of the Alleghenies.  Both states set up county courts and issued overlapping land grants, and rival militias vied for control.  This class will explore the border controversy, and discuss Virginia's forgotten counties in what are now West Virginia and Pennsylvania.

This is a two-part class taught by Robert Dunkerly, who is a park ranger at Richmond National Battlefield Park. Mr. Dunkerly has written widely on military history, including books on the American Revolution, and is active in historic preservation. He has taught several classes at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture.
