In our library

Our research library, which provides access to an unrivaled collection of primary and secondary sources, is open to the public for historical and genealogical researchYou can access the vast collections of the Virginia Historical Society in person or online.

How can we help with your research?

Admission

Admission to the research library is included with admission to the museum. During COVID-19 re-opening phases, we ask that you call the library in advance at 804.342.9677 or email Library staff at reference@virginiahistory.org to schedule an appointment.  

LIbrary Hours

The Library is open by appointment only. We ask that visitors make an appointment at least forty-eight hours in advance of their visit. For more information, please contact Library staff at 804.342.9677, or reference@virginiahistory.org.

Facility Information

Parking is available in our lot locate at the rear of the museum. The entrance is at the corner of Kensington Avenue and Shepard Street. Our building is accessible to wheelchairs and strollers. View a complete list of Guest Rules & Regulations.
